Stripes & Strikes GOLD wins 6th Annual Bloomsburg University 16u Invitational with 6-0 record

BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Stripes & Strikes GOLD Travel Softball Team opened the 2017-18 season by sweeping six games to win the 6th Annual Bloomsburg University Invitational Tournament.  Below is a brief recap of each game.
GAME 1                STRIPES & STRIKES GOLD  3            Scranton Black Panthers   0
     Sarah Tuzinski fired a 4-hit shutout, striking out 8 batters to lead Stripes & Strikes to a 3-0 win over the Scranton Black Panthers.  Marissa Trivelpiece paced the offense, launching a deep home run to rightfield to break a scoreless tie in the 4th inning.  She also ripped an RBI-single in the 6th inning.  Kasidy Slusser cracked an RBI-double.  Tuzinski, Rebecca Rossi, Madison Kester, Haley Naperkowski and Kayla Reich each singled.  Rossi, who stole a franchise-record 107 bases in 110 attempts last year, stole two bases. 
GAME 2                STRIPES & STRIKES GOLD  12           PIttston Blaze   1
    Marissa Trivelpiece went 3-3, crsurshing a 3-run home run in the top of the 1st inning, to lead S&S GOLD to a 12-1 win over the Pittston Blaze.  Trivelpiece added two singles, driving in five runs.  Rebecca Rossi lined two singles, stole 3 bases and scored 3 runs.  Skylar Smith drilled an RBI-triple, while Gaby Vuocolo ripped an RBI-double.  Sarah Tuzinski and Madison Kester each singled.  Kasidy Slusser was the winning pitcher.
GAME 3                STRIPES & STRIKES GOLD  4            Williamsport Dawg Pen   1
     Stripes & Strikes defeated the Williamsport Dawg Pen, 4-1 as Kasidy Slusser hurled 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, no walks and 8 strikeouts.  S&S struck for three first-inning runs, as Marissa Trivelpiece, Skylar Smith and Slusser each smacked an RBI-single.  Sarah Tuzinski belted two singles, while Rossi, Sam Kern, Haley Naperkowski and Kayla Reich each contributed a single. 
GAME 4                STRIPES & STRIKES GOLD  18           TNT  4
     TNT jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, only to fall, 18-4, to Stripes & Strikes in the quarterfinals.  Madison Kester and Marissa Trivelpiece paced the 16-hit attack, each going 3-5.  Trivelpiece drove in 5 runs, while Kester blasted a 2-run double.  Sarah Tuzinski blasted a sngle and double to drive in 2 runs.  Gabby Vuocolo’s 2-run home run clanked off the leftfield foul pole.  She also doubled and scored 3 runs.  Haley Naperkowski and Bailey Slacktish each cracked an RBI-double.  Erin Dunn and Kasidy Slusser each singled.  Slusser picked up the win in relief. 
GAME 5                STRIPES & STRIKES GOLD  5            Montoursville Razorbacks   0
    Sarah Tuzinski hurled a no-hitter to send S&S to the Championship Game, with a 5-0 victory over the Montoursville Razorbacks.  Haley Naperkowski and Tuzinski lined RBI-singles in the 3rd inning to give S&S a 2-0 lead.  The Hazleton-based team scored 3 runs in the 6th inning on consecutive RBI-singles Gabby Vuocolo, Gabby Rakowski and Rebecca Rossi.  Vuocolo and Rakowski each ripped two singles.  Marissa Trivelpiece and Madison Kester each singled. 
GAME 6                STRIPES & STRIKES GOLD  7            Impact Panthers  6
    In the Championship Game, Stripes & Strikes GOLD jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the 2nd inning, only to have the Panthers come storming back to cut the lead to 6-5 after 4 innings.  Sarah Tuzinski relieved Kasidy Slusser in the 5th, allowing only one hit over the final 3 innings, to pick up a save as Stripes & Strikes won the Championship, 7-6.  S&S took a 7-5 lead to the bottom of the 7th.  The Panthers Sue Koser hit an RBI-double with no outs to cut the lead to 7-6.  Tuzinski sanwiched a walk around 2 popouts.  After an errant pick off throw, Scranton had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, as Tuzinski struck out Lisa Clark to end the game. 
     Skylar Smith drove in two runs with a single and sacrifice fly.  Gabby Vuocolo blistered a double and single.  Marissa Trivelpiece singled twice to drive in a run, while Rossi singled twice and stole two bases.  Haley Naperkowski singled to drive in a run, and also stole two bases.  Madison Kester, Tuzinski and Gabby Rakowski each singled.  Kasidy Slusser (4-0) was credited with her 4th win of the tournament, while Sarah Tuzinski (2-0) picked up her second save.  Marissa Trivelpiece led the tournament in batting average (12-21, .571) and RBIs (14).  Tuzinski hit .471 and went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. 
    Stripes & Strikes GOLD (6-0) will be back in action Tuesday, September 5th as they open the Lehigh Valley Fall League at Patriot’s Park in Allentown with a 5:45pm doubleheader against the Allentown Vikings.  For more information, visit the team’s website at
