STRIPES & STRIKES 18u GOLD wins Big VisionOktoberfest Invitational Softball Tournament


LEESPORT, PA – The Stripes & Strikes 18u GOLD Travel Softball Team went undefeated through six games to capture the Big Vision Oktoberfest Invitational Tournament here this weekend.  Kasidy Slusser hurled 15 scoreless innings on the final day to lead S&S to the Title.  She went 5-0 on the mound with a 0.28 ERA, allowing only one earned run over 25 innings. Below is a recap of the six games.




Game One          Stripes& Strikes 6                PA Ball Hawks (York, PA)  5


Maddy Kester drilled a 2-run triple in the top of the 7th to propel Stripes & Strikes to a 6-5 win.  Kester finished 2-4 with 3 RBIs.  Marissa Trivelpiece tripled,Kasidy Slusser doubled while Tiana Treon, Ali Keener, Gianna Gombeda and Jersey-Lynn Cook each added a single. Slusser was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing only 2 hits over 4 innings.


Game 2      Stripes & Strikes    12 Northwest Explosion  (Bethlehem) 5


Marissa Trivelpiece went 3-4, smashing a double and triple to drive in 2 runs as Stripes & Strikes upended Northwest Explosion, 12-5.  Tianna Treon drove in 3 runs with a pair of singles. Gianna Gombeda ripped a double and single, while Ali Keener, Maddy Kester, Sarah Tuzinski and Kas Slusser each singled twice.  Kelsie Peters had an RBI-single.  Slusser was the winning pitcher in relief of Tuzinski.


Game Three  Stripes & Strikes 4 Emmaus Sting  2


Sarah Tuzinski fired a 4-hitter and laced an RBI-single to lead S&S to a 4-2 win over The Emmaus Sting.  Marissa Trivelpiece lined an RBI-triple, Ali Keener ripped an RBI-single, while Maddy Kester, Tiana Treon and KP Peters each singled.  Slusser came on in relief to pick up her 2nd save of the season. 





QUARTERFINAL:   Stripes & Strikes 4            PA Ball Hawks (York, PA) 0


Kasidy Slusser hurled a complete game shutout, striking out 9 batters. Marissa Trivelpiece went 2-2 with a sacrifice fly.  Tiana Treon singled twice to drive in two runs.  Bella Gorzkowski smacked an RBI-single, while Kester, Peters and Gombeda each added a single. 


SEMI-FINAL:    Stripes & Strikes  5                 Delaware Phillies  3


Stripes & Strikes overcame a 3-2 deficit with 3 runs in the 6th inning.  Marissa Trivelpiece started the inning with along solo home run over the right centerfield fence to tie the game at three.  Maddy Kester and Ali Keener hit consecutive singles, then each moved up a base on a wild pitch with two outs.  KP Peters followed with a dramatic 2-run single to center, plating both runners.  Slusser came on in relief to hurl 3 shutout innings to pick up the win.  Sarah Tuzinski paced the offense with two singles.  Treon, Kester, Keener, Slusser and Kylie Herbert each added a single. 


CHAMPIONSHIP: Stripes & Strikes  2   Nwest Explosion (Bethlehem) 0


Sarah Tuzinski and Kas Slusser combined to hurl a shutout, leading Stripes & Strikes to a 2-0 victory in the Championship Game. Slusser picked up the win, hurling 15 shutout innings on the day.  Stripes & Strikes took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Marissa Trivelpiece walked with 2 out, and scored all the way from first on Bella Gorzkowski’s double to rightcenter.  In the top of the 7th, KP Peters scored all the way from first base when a sacrifice bunt was thrown away.  Ali Keener singled twice, while Treon,Tuzinski, and Jersey-Lynn Cook each added a single. 


Stripes & Strikes(24-2), will travel to Allentown today (Tuesday) to play a 5:45pm doubleheader vs The Bangor Pirates at Patriot’s Park in Allentown.  The team is still seeking one or two players to round out its 2019 roster.  For further information, contact Vince at or 570-233-3925.
